Frequently Asked Questions

We truly appreciate you choosing LLHUNT Adventures LLC for your hunt.

1. Tipping Guidelines: How Much to Show Your Appreciation.

If you enjoyed your experience and the service provided, gratuities are a wonderful way to show your appreciation. We suggest $150 per guest for our hardworking cooking staff and 13–20% of your total hunt cost for your guides. Thank you again for being part of our adventure family — your support means the world to us!

2. How tough is it to kill a nilgai, and where should I aim? Nilgai are very tough animals with heavy bone, thick hide, and vitals that sit farther forward than a whitetail, so they don’t leave much blood and will soak up a poor shot. Aim tight on the front end—straight up the front leg and about one‑third of the way up the body—to drive through the shoulder and hit the heart/lungs, and be ready to shoot again if the bull is still on his feet.

3. How far are the shots, and will we shoot from sticks or the truck? Most of our shots run in that 100–250 yard range, and we try to get you as close as the country and the nilgai will let us. Almost all shooting is done off good, solid shooting sticks, but if we get a close opportunity from the truck, we may use the truck rail or window as a rest when it’s safe and legal to do so.

4. Do I need a special Texas license for nilgai and where do I get it?

You don’t need a special nilgai license, but you do need a valid Texas hunting license because nilgai are classified as exotic animals in Texas. Residents can use their regular Texas hunting license, and non-residents can buy a non-resident or 5-day exotic/small game license online from Texas Parks & Wildlife or from most sporting goods stores and Walmarts in Texas.

5.How does the day go—do we ride and glass, or do more spot-and-stalk on foot?

We usually hunt safari-style: we ride and glass from the truck or high rack, then once we spot a good bull, we get out and do a spot-and-stalk on foot using shooting sticks to get you set up; we typically hunt the first 2–4 hours of the morning and the last 2–4 hours of light, and most shots are from about 100–250 yards, depending on the cover and what the nilgai give us

6. What’s included in the hunt and what extra costs should I expect (meat processing, taxidermy, tips.

Your hunt includes lodging at the lodge, all meals, a fully guided hunt, transportation on the ranch, and basic field care of your animal (skinning and quartering at the posted ranch rate). Not included are your Texas hunting license, meat processing, taxidermy, airport or travel costs, ammo or rifle rental, and gratuities for guides and staff, which are customarily extra

7. Can we keep shed antlers, skulls, or any other items we find on the ranch?

All shed antlers, skulls, artifacts, and other found items belong to the ranch, so we don’t allow guests to keep anything they find unless your guide gets specific permission from the landowner.
